Alexander (Koine Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος, romanized: Alexandros) was a prince of the Ptolemaic Dynasty during the Hellenistic Period.
Family[]
Alexander was the third son of Ptolemy III by Berenice II. Alexander had two older brothers named Ptolemy IV and Lysimachus, a younger brother called Magas, and Arsinoë III and Berenice were his sisters.
Biography[]
Alexander presumably grew up in Alexandria. When his brother Ptolemy IV ascended to the throne, Alexander was presumably put to death in a dynastic purge instigated by Sosibius, Ptolemy IV's minister and guardian. His uncle Lysimachus and younger brother Magas are known to have fallen victim to this purge.
