…kare Bebnum (transliteration: bbnm) was an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh of the Fourteenth Dynasty during the Second Intermediate Period. He was of Canaanite origin and ruled from Avaris over the eastern and possibly western Nile Delta in Lower Egypt, some time during the first half of the 17th century BC.[2] Bebnum is merely known by his preserved birth name and partially preserved throne name (…kare) in the Turin King List. His reign length has not been preserved.

Chronological position[]

Egyptologist Jürgen von Beckerath places Bebnum in the 16th Dynasty as a vassal of the Hyksos.[3] Kim Ryholt views Bebnum as a ruler of the 14th Dynasty.[1] Bebnum is only attested by an isolated fragment of the Turin Canon. The fact that the fragment on which Bebnum figures is not attached to the rest of the document made its chronological position difficult to ascertain.[4] However an analysis of the fibers of the papyrus led Ryholt to place the fragment on the 9th column, row 28 of the canon[1] (Col 9. Line 30 as per Gardiner).[5]
