Den (transliteration: dn, meaning: "Bringer of Water") was the fifth pharaoh of the First Dynasty during the Early Dynastic Period of Egypt. He is the best archaeologically-attested ruler of this period, credited with bringing prosperity to his realm. Den is believed to have ascended the throne as an infant and that, consequently, his mother Merneith ruled as a regent or de facto pharaoh for several years.
