Iuput (transliteration: ỉw-pwt) was an ancient Egyptian prince and High Priest of Amun of the Twenty-second Dynasty during the Third Intermediate Period.

Family[]

Iuput was the second son of Pharaoh Shoshenq I. The identity of his mother remains unknown. His older and younger brothers are Osorkon I and Nimlot respectively. He is known to have had three sisters; Tashepenbastet, Henuttawy, and Djedinetnebuiuesankh. Iuput's daughter by an unknown wife was named Neskhonsupakhered. She was married to Djedkhonsiuefankh, who was the Fourth Prophet of Amun.[1]

Career[]

Iuput was appointed High Priest of Amun under his father's rule, who – upon succeeding Psusennes II – split the office from that of the pharaoh. It was to be held by princes (usually the heir to the throne) throughout the remaining Third Intermediate Period. Iuput himself was succeeded in office by Shoshenq, the son and heir of the next pharaoh, Iuput's older brother, Osorkon I. Iuput also served as Vizier of Upper Egypt, and General of the Army.[2]

Burial[]

Iuput was buried at Abydos "in a large tomb with a granite-lined burial chamber".[3]
