A Nomarch (ḥrj tp ꜥꜣ) was a governor of a territorial division in ancient Egypt, called a Nome (from Ancient Greek: νομός, nomós, "district"). Nomes were a type of administrative division, the equivalent of a county's districts or provinces in our modern terms. Nomarchs in Upper and Lower Egypt served one of the two corresponding Viziers, who in turn served the Pharaoh.
