Ancient Egypt Wiki

A Nome (from Ancient Greek: νομός, nomós, "district") was a territorial division in ancient Egypt. The Ancient Egyptian term was spꜣt. Nomes were a type of administrative division - the equivalent of a county's districts in our modern terms - that was managed for the Pharaoh by a local governor, called a Nomarch. The number of nomes changed through the various periods of the history of ancient Egypt.
