Overseer of the Horses or Stablemaster (ancient Egyptian: ỉmy-r ssmt) was an ancient Egyptian high ranking title often held by military officials during the New Kingdom. The titleholders were in charge of overseeing the stables and horses. Horses were extremely important for the army since the late Second Intermediate Period, when chariots became fundamental in warfare. Hence many stablemasters often held the military title "Overseer of the Chariotry".
