In Egyptian mythology, the underworld consisted of two realms: Aaru and Duat. Aaru, also known as Sekhet-Aaru or the Egyptian reed fields, is the heavenly paradise where Osiris ruled. Duat is the realm of the dead and the realm of Osiris and other gods and supernatural beings. Ra travels through the Duat with the gods every night and re-emerges after fighting Apophis at sunrise.
